Battery Life Explained
The math behind battery life is simple in theory, but variables like temperature and internal resistance change things in the real world.
- Capacity (mAh): Milliamp-hours. This represents how much "fuel" is in the tank. A 2500mAh battery can theoretically provide 2500mA of current for exactly 1 hour.
- The Load (mA): This is how much power your device pulls. If your LED strip pulls 100mA, it will drain the "fuel" much slower than a motor pulling 1000mA.
- The Efficiency/Safety Rule: Most battery chemistries (especially Li-Po and Lead Acid) should not be drained to 0% as it can permanently damage the cells. We use a safety factor (default 85%) to give you a realistic "safe" runtime estimate.
- Formula:
Runtime = (Capacity / Load) * Efficiency
