When calculating how many tiles, bricks, or pavers you need, you must factor in the size of the grout line or mortar joint. A 3/8" (0.375) mortar joint might not seem like much, but over a 10-foot wall, it significantly reduces the number of bricks you need to buy.
Waste Factor: Bricklaying and tiling require cutting units to fit the edges of your project space. Always add a 10% waste factor for standard square rooms, or 15% if your project involves a lot of angles, doorways, or a diagonal herringbone pattern.
