Why Add a Waste Factor?
No room is perfectly square, and flooring planks are rarely the exact length of your room. When installing laminate, vinyl plank (LVP), or hardwood, you will have to cut pieces to fit around walls, doors, and closets.
- Standard Rooms: Add 10% for cuts, bad planks, and minor mistakes.
- Complex Rooms: Add 15% if the room has curved walls, a fireplace hearth, kitchen islands, or lots of doorways.
- Diagonal Installation: Add 15-20% if you are laying the flooring at a 45-degree angle, as this creates significantly more edge waste.
Pro Tip: It is always better to buy an extra box and return it later than to run out of planks when you have two rows left!
