Golf Smash Factor & Drive Optimizer
Calculate your ball speed and visualize your ball flight based on swing speed, contact quality, and club selection.
The Physics of Smash Factor
In golf, Smash Factor measures how efficiently you transfer the energy from the clubhead into the golf ball. The formula is simply: Ball Speed รท Club Speed.
Because the USGA limits the trampoline effect of golf clubs, the absolute maximum theoretical Smash Factor for a Driver is 1.50.
Different clubs have different limits. A 7-iron has a higher loft, meaning more of the energy goes into creating spin and height rather than forward velocity. Therefore, a perfect dead-center strike with a 7-iron yields a Smash Factor closer to 1.33.
To maximize your distance, you don't necessarily have to swing out of your shoes. Finding the center of the face (100% Impact Efficiency) to maximize your Smash Factor will often yield better distance than a faster, off-center swing.
