What is Launch Angle?

Launch Angle represents the vertical angle at which the baseball leaves the bat after being struck. Hitting the ball hard (Exit Velocity) is only half the battle; you have to hit it at the correct trajectory to get on base or hit a home run.

Major League Baseball categorizes batted balls into four main "buckets":

Ground Ball: Less than 10°
Line Drive: 10° to 25° (Highest Batting Average)
Fly Ball: 25° to 50° (The Home Run Zone)
Pop-up: Greater than 50° (Almost always an out)

To hit a home run, you generally want an angle between 25 and 35 degrees combined with a high exit velocity. Hitting a ball at 105 mph directly into the dirt (-5°) or straight up in the air (60°) won't help your slugging percentage!
