The Myth of "Multiply by 7"

For years, people believed that one dog or cat year equaled seven human years. Veterinary science (AVMA) has shown this is false because pets mature much faster in their first two years of life.

  • Year 1: Equals 15 human years (They reach adolescence quickly).
  • Year 2: Equals 9 human years (They reach young adulthood).
  • Years 3+: Each additional year adds about 5 human years for a dog, and 4 human years for a cat.
