The Pomodoro Technique

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique uses a timer to break work down into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

  • Step 1: Pick a single task to focus on.
  • Step 2 (Pomodoro): Work deeply for 25 minutes. No distractions!
  • Step 3 (Short Break): Take a 5-minute break to step away and stretch.
  • Step 4: Repeat. After you complete four "Pomodoros" (work sessions), take a longer 15-30 minute break to fully reset your brain.

Fun Fact: "Pomodoro" is the Italian word for tomato. Cirillo named the technique after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student.
